Platform

How PlaceOS works

PlaceOS is a software platform designed to enhance interactions within physical spaces by integrating various systems, devices, and services. This integration facilitates seamless experiences and automation, improving efficiency and user engagement.
Drivers

Core components that enable communication between different parts of the digital ecosystem. They are categorized into:

Integration drivers

Facilitate communication with external systems, representing hardware or software platforms. Control any functionality of the external systems and handle any incoming data.

Logic drivers

Coordinate interactions between modules without mapping to specific physical objects. Represent abstract or conceptual functions. May use a variety of devices or software platforms.

Modules

Instances of drivers

Instances of drivers that represent specific physical devices, digital platforms, or logic controlling interactions among hardware and software. They provide state information and define behaviors for the systems they control.

Systems

Collections of modules

Collections of modules that often represent physical spaces (e.g., meeting rooms) or connected items across spaces (e.g., digital signage). Systems contain modules, settings, and metadata, and can belong to multiple zones.

Zones

Collections of systems

Collections of systems serving as logical groupings based on common traits, such as physical location or conceptual similarities. Zones help manage settings and configurations across multiple systems.

Settings

Configuration

Configuration information defining system behavior. Settings can be applied at various levels—zones, systems, drivers, or modules—and are expressed as JSON data. They inherit and combine across levels, allowing for general configurations at higher levels and specific ones at lower tiers.

Triggers

Automation

Mechanisms that define actions based on specific criteria like system state, time, or external inputs. Triggers enable dynamic linking of state and behavior across different modules, allowing for event-driven behavior customization.

Examples of Automation

Optimizing a building's resources is more than data and analytics; it's about the ability to take action. With PlaceOS, you're empowered to stack multiple conditions and triggers, enhancing efficiency in energy use, operations, and the overall building environment. This creates an automation ecosystem that encompasses in-room devices, lights, access control, and more. Discover how PlaceOS seamlessly integrates and transforms these various systems:
